1985 hired by the Federal land Bank in Northeast LA, trained in land appraisal and lending; managed and sold bank owned inventory. 1992 became an associate in a rural property appraisal/brokerage business (Colt James Properties), as the business evolved and matured the business name was changed to TrustLand and a partnership ensued; TrustLand operated as a full service land company sepcializing in appraisal, consulting, managing, acquisitions, mortgages, and brokerage of rural property.  Over the years a portfolio of rural properties and a  portfolio of land mortgages were assembled.  Today, I am partner in managing the capital assets of TrustLand through land acquisitions/sales and first mortgage real estate loans.  Now that Trustland has become a private equity investor offering no third party services, I have joined the sales team at Baker Agri-Forest Properties, LLC.  This will allow me to maintain my Louisiana License Real Estate Salesperson liscensee status and to continue offereing third party brokerage/consulting to clients.
 

John grew up in Grant Parish, graduating from Grant High School.  He graduated from La. Tech University with a B.S. degree in Agriculture Business.  In 1984 John was hired by the Federal Land Bank in Rayville, LA, training in rural land appraisals and agricultural lending.  In 1989, he began working for First South PCA as a rural land appraiser for 24 years and a agricultural lender for 4 years, retiring in 2017 after 28 years.  During his tenure at First South, he earned a state certified general appraisal designation in 1992 and specialized in rural property appraisal and agricultural facility appraisals throughout Louisiana.  After retiring in 2017 from First South, John began working with Trustland Properties (Colt James & Clay Cook) in their full-service land company. 
John’s work experience has been in land appraisal and agricultural lending and is well suited to support Baker Agri-Forest Properties, LLC and their specialization in recreational, timberland, and agricultural properties. John obtained his Louisiana Real Estate license in 2024 and currently works in partnership with Clay Cook (another Baker Agri-Forest Sales Agent).  Together they contribute a wealth of knowledge and expertise of rural property to the firm. He is also an owner/operator of a row crop and pecan farm in Grant Parish.
